Four Industrial Storage Buildings Erected at Short Notice

Four storage buildings were designed, built and erected on uneven ground for a customer of HR-Structures. Three of them are 82.0 ft wide and 147.6 ft long, and the last one is 82.0 ft wide and 131.2 ft long, which has given them an extra 47,101 ft² of storage space. The walls are 17.4 ft tall at their highest points.

 

The storage buildings were needed at very short notice and there was no time for foundation work, so they had to be adapted to a very uneven surface. In some places, the length of the buildings differ in height by up to 5.25 ft and approximately 3.28 ft difference in the ground height in the building widths had to be taken into account.

The buildings are constructed with corrugated sheet walls with an anti-condensation coating. Each wall panel is sealed at the floor with a milled edge and bitumen sealing. This helps protect the goods stored on the paved surface from moisture.

 

The storage buildings are all equipped with 15.7 x 11.5 ft sliding doors to allow easy access for goods moving vehicles and plant. All industrial fire safety requirements were met by the inclusion of 12 roof-mounted smoke and heat vents. Fire escape doors around the building ensure sufficient escape routes for workers in the building. The modern facilities use motor driven vents connected to wind and rain detection centres. This allows automatic optimum ventilation for the buildings and the vents are closed automatically if it rains.

 

Despite the speed that the buildings were erected, they are strong enough to withstand a wind load of 10.4 lb/ft² and a snow load of 13.3 lb/ft². The roofs are also strong enough to bear the weight of any future installation of solar panels. This would produce enough power to operate the buildings’ lighting with self-generated electricity.
